2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Revealed With New 4WD Platform and Seven Seats

Mitsubishi has officially revealed the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero, bringing back its iconic off-road SUV after a five-year global absence. The fifth-generation model gets an entirely new construction, a more premium interior and updated four-wheel-drive technology.

The new Pajero is built in Thailand and will first launch in Thailand, followed by Japan and Australia during Mitsubishi's fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027, Mitsubishi plans to introduce it in around 100 countries, including markets across ASEAN, Latin America and the Middle East.

2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Design

The new Pajero keeps the traditional boxy and upright SUV shape associated with the nameplate. It features a flat hood, strong horizontal lines, pronounced fenders and modern T-shaped headlights.

Mitsubishi has also incorporated design elements inspired by earlier Pajero generations. The C-pillar takes inspiration from the roll bar of the first-generation model, while the rear design includes a hexagonal motif inspired by the spare-wheel design of previous Pajeros.

Two grille designs will be available, including a horizontal-bar grille and a honeycomb-style design inspired by Mitsubishi's Dakar heritage.

Seven-Seat Interior With Dual 14.3-Inch Screens

The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero has a seven-seat cabin designed to combine off-road practicality with a more premium feel.

The second-row seats can slide to provide easier access to the third row. The cabin also features heated second-row seats, a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system and dual 14.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, although some specifications will use 12.3-inch displays.

Mitsubishi has retained physical controls for important functions, while the dashboard incorporates design cues from the original Pajero.

2.4-Liter Diesel Engine

At launch, the new Pajero will be powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder clean-diesel engine with a single variable-geometry turbocharger.

The engine produces up to 480 Nm of torque, with some specifications rated at 470 Nm. It is paired with a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode.

The SUV also gets Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD-II system along with Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology. Seven selectable driving modes include Eco, Normal, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.

Off-Road Capability

The new Pajero is built around a rigid ladder-frame platform related to the Mitsubishi Triton pickup, but Mitsubishi has specifically developed the suspension and chassis for the SUV.

It uses an independent double-wishbone front suspension and a five-link rigid rear axle. Ground clearance is 230 mm, while the approach angle is 30.4 degrees, breakover angle is 22.6 degrees and departure angle is 25.8 degrees.

The SUV measures 4,920 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,910 mm high, with a 2,870 mm wheelbase.

When Will the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Launch?

Mitsubishi says the new Pajero will launch first in Thailand, followed by Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027, the company plans to expand the SUV to approximately 100 countries, including the Middle East.

Mitsubishi has not confirmed a U.S. launch, while the exact availability and specifications will vary by market.

The return of the Pajero gives Mitsubishi a new flagship SUV aimed at combining the nameplate's established off-road reputation with modern technology, comfort and premium features.
